Non鈥慉cademic Requirements


In addition to the academic requirements for admission into the BHSc program, there are also non-academic documents that must be submitted alongside your application. This includes a letter of intent with responses to 5 questions outlined below.

Assessment of non-academic performance accounts for 20% of the applicant's overall total score. All supplementary information should be attached to the听.

Letter of Intent

A letter of intent must be submitted with your application package. Your letter must address each of the following questions:

  1. How did you research this field before making your choice? What surprised or excited you the most about the program/profession?

  2. What do you anticipate will be the most challenging aspect of this program/a career in this profession, and how are you preparing yourself for that reality?

  3. Describe the kind of healthcare professional that you want to be. Please provide examples that illustrate the steps that you will take to be the best healthcare professional for your future patients.

  4. Why are you a good candidate for this program, and how have your life experiences shaped your interest in studying Health Sciences? Responses may include:
    • Work/employment
    • Volunteer/service to others
    • Athletics, clubs
    • Barriers and/or disadvantages that you鈥檝e experienced
    • Family/community responsibilities
    • Creative or performing arts
    • Other(s)
  5. Please include two professional/academic references. For each person, list their full name, current job title, company, phone number, email address, and a short note explaining your relationship.听

Please use the following instructions when drafting your letter:

  • Answer questions in paragraph form;
  • Organize your letter clearly and concisely, and demonstrate proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
  • Limit your answers to 250 words per question.

Applicants will be assessed on the following non-academic criteria:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the selected health profession
  • Leadership
  • Community involvement
  • Teamwork

If you're applying to more than one professional discipline within the Bachelor of Health Science program, you must write a separate letter for each discipline to which you are applying.
