POSITION #1: Teaching Assistant (90 hours), HSCE 1000.03 Foundations of Health Care Practice~Fall 2026

Start-end date: September 8-Dec 12, 2026

COURSE DESCRIPTION: HSCE1000.03 introduces students in the BHSc professions to the Canadian Health Care System and the role of the health professional within that system. The course compares the Canadian system to systems from other countries and covers diverse healthcare models such as primary care, palliative care, long term care, etc. The role of the health professional is explored through the study of professionalism, scope of practice, and risk management in an interprofessional context. The course will allow students the opportunity to develop/improve essential skills to help them study and work in a multi-disciplinary system including critical thinking, writing skills, communication and teamwork.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The Teaching Assistant will grade the evaluative components of HSCE 1000. Responsibilities include regular meetings and e-mail communication with course faculty to review expectations for each assignment; grading assignments, quizzes and a term paper; and recording, tracking and regularly submitting grades to course faculty. Participation, if applicable (example, discussion forums), on an ongoing basis is an expectation.  The TA reports to the course professor.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: an undergraduate degree in one of the health professions, English, literature or library sciences; an understanding of the evidence based decision-making process.

POSITION #2: Teaching Assistant (90 hours/term), HSCE 1020.03/HSCE 1030.03 Human Anatomy & Physiology I/II~Fall 2026; Winter 2027

Start-end dates:

  • September 8-Dec 12, 2026  (Fall term 2026)
  • January 11-April 17, 2027 (Winter term 2027)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  HSCE 1020 and HSCE 1030, are each designed to provide the student with an understanding of the cellular, organ, and system levels of organization of the human body.  HSCE 1020 includes a comprehensive study of facts pertaining to the covering, support and movement of the human body. Topics covered will include organization of the body, the integumentary, skeletal and muscular systems (HSCE 1020). HSCE 1030 studies the systems that serve in maintaining the human body and ensuring its continuity. Topics covered will include cardiovascular, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems. This course will provide students with an appreciation of the complexities of the human function and form and set the stage for understanding the integration of organ system functions. (HSCE 1030)

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The TA will be responsible for working with the course professor to ensure that the course runs efficiently and that student evaluations are prompt with appropriate feedback. Evaluation of student performance will be shared between the TA and the course professor. Participation where applicable (example group discussions) on an ongoing basis is an expectation. The TA reports to the course professor.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Individuals interested in applying for this position should have familiarity with anatomical and physiological terminology and principles. The successful applicants will preferably be enrolled in a graduate program in one of the biological sciences. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and capacity for organization and working to a deadline are required. Familiarity with the 全国探花 Brightspace online portal or other online learning resource tools would be beneficial.

POSITION #3: Teaching Assistant (130 hrs), HSCE 3000.03, Culture, Diversity, & Health~Fall 2026

Start-end dates: September 8-Dec 12, 2026

This course is taught online using On-line Web Learning (Brightspace). Students taking this asynchronous course may include students who are located throughout Canada.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Community development, community advocacy, social justice and primary healthcare will be the theoretical frameworks for exploring the Health Science practitioner鈥檚 role and practice in the context of working with populations in high risk environments. The emphasis is on understanding the issues, collaborating with those involved, and building individual and group capacities to enhance and promote the health and well-being of specific populations.
WORK ASSIGNMENT: The Teaching Assistant will be responsible for working with the course professor to ensure that the course runs efficiently.  Evaluation of student performance (marking) and proctoring examinations will be shared between the teaching assistant and the course professor.  Participation where applicable (example group discussions)  on an ongoing basis is an expectation.  The Teaching Assistant reports to the course professor.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Individuals interested in applying for this position should have outstanding organizational and communication skills, should work well with others and be self-motivated independent workers.  The successful applicant will be familiar with and interested in current issues related to cultural competency and diversity in the Canadian health care context. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.  Master鈥檚 student is preferred but those with relevant undergraduate preparation and experience will be considered. 

POSITION #4 (2 positions available) TA (130 hrs); TA (110 hrs), HSCE 4030.03, Leadership in Health Care~Fall 2026

Start-end dates: September 8-Dec 12, 2026

This course is taught online using On-line Web Learning (Brightspace). Students taking this asynchronous course may include students who are located throughout Canada.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: HSCE 4030 will consider various elements of leadership in a complex, multi-professional and rapidly changing healthcare system, and will enable students to assess and strengthen their own leadership style. An understanding of current trends and issues in healthcare will provide a basis for the development of leadership skills. Critical thinking, decision-making processes and other leadership behaviours will be examined.
WORK ASSIGNMENT:  The Teaching Assistant(s) will be responsible for working with the course professor in this course to ensure that the course runs efficiently and effectively.  Evaluation of student performance and participation on an ongoing basis will be expected of the TA(s) in these roles.  The Teaching Assistant(s) report to the course professor.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Individuals interested in applying for this position(s) should have outstanding organizational and communication skills, should work well with others and be self-motivated independent workers.  The successful applicant(s) will be familiar with and interested in current issues related to leadership in the Canadian health care context. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.  Experience with Brightspace is an asset.  Master鈥檚 student is preferred but those with relevant undergraduate preparation and experience will be considered.
