The Association for Canadian Jewish Studies, the leading organization dedicated to advancing public knowledge on the Jewish experience in Canada, is seeking an undergraduate student intern with a keen interest in academic and literary publishing to take an active role in the work of two of its publications: (CJS), the only scholarly journal devoted to the study of the Canadian Jewish experience; and a literary journal that showcases contemporary Canadian Jewish fiction and poetry.
The internship is an opportunity to learn the ropes of academic and literary journal publishing, gain editing and writing experience, and work with professional editors and publishers as part of a lively, collaborative team.

The position is for the 2026–2027 academic year, beginning the week of September 28, 2026, and ending the week of April 12, 2027, with the possibility of extension through the summer months. The position will be remote and average 3–4 hours per week, depending on the time of year and publication demands. The editors of CJS and Parchment will determine the amount of time split between the two publications in conversation with the intern. The position pays a stipend of $2,500.
The intern will be fully expected to participate in the life of both journals and have some affinity for the production and/or study of Canadian Jewish culture.
CJS responsibilities will include:
·     Assisting the editorial team at all ends of manuscript workflow, including editing, formatting, citation referencing, and proofreading, with some direct communication with authors
·     Working with the editorial team on metadata clean-up of the journal’s archive dating back to 1993
·     Assisting the editorial team in the production of one of the following subsections: Archives Matters, Roundtable, or Translation, not necessarily for publication during the months of the internship
·     Writing article summaries for the ACJS and Parchment newsletters and social media in collaboration with in-house social media coordinator and editorial team
·     Opportunity to write a scholarly book review for publication, with hands-on writing and editing support from the editorial team
Parchment responsibilities will include
·     Editing fiction and literary non-fiction at all stages of development, in collaboration with editorial staff
·     Evaluating unsolicited submissions and providing detailed feedback to the editorial staff and/or writer
·     Responding to journal inquiries via Parchment’s email account and updating in-house information-management systems
·     Curating and posting social media posts in collaboration with in-house social media coordinator and editor-in-chief
Experience and Qualifications
·     Must be in third or fourth year of undergraduate degree; previous experience with Jewish studies preferred but not required
·     Previous experience editing academic or non-academic writing preferred but not required
·     Comfortable in a collaborative work environment, sharing ideas, and being part of a team
·     Strong organizational skills and capacity for executing small tasks and larger projects independently
