Minor in ESS

罢丑别听Environment, Sustainability & Society (ESS) Minor听is available in any听120 credit听hour undergraduate degree program that allows a Minor, including BA, BSc,听BMgmt,听BComm, BCD, BCS, BACS, BMus, BJH, and BSc (MedSci).听

The Minor听provides听an opportunity for meaningful study of ESS with more flexibility than the Major, since students select their own suite of SUST courses, and听it鈥檚听available in some degrees that听don鈥檛听accommodate a Double Major (e.g.,听BComm, BCS, BACS,听and BSc [MedSci]).听It鈥檚听also a great听option听for BA and BSc students already in another double major, or for students who discover their interest in Sustainability later in their program.

Other ESS Minor options

BA 90-credit-hour with Minor

BA students may also complete a 90-credit-hour (鈥3-year鈥) degree with ESS as a Minor.听

The 90 credit-hour BA with Minor in ESS allows a student for whom the full 4-year degree no longer fits their circumstances to graduate with a BA degree, recognizing a concentration of courses in ESS. It is a good听option听for students who intend to pursue a professional undergraduate program that requires at least 2 years of undergraduate work, like the Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies (BEDS, aka Architecture). They may choose to complete the 90 credit-hour BA degree before embarking on their next degree.听

Students who graduate with the 90 credit-hour BA degree may re-apply to upgrade this degree to a 120 credit-hour BA degree with further studies to satisfy the听additional听requirements. Note that credits from the 90 credit-hour degree will only be valid to count toward the 120 credit-hour for 10 years.

BEng/BA with Minor

Students pursuing the concurrent BEng/BA degree may complete the ESS Minor. This program typically takes 5 years to complete and听provides听a unique opportunity to gain a multi-disciplinary understanding of sustainability issues,听goals听and solutions alongside an Engineering degree. Interested students should meet with the Engineering and ESS Academic Advisors during their first year听for more information听and听then听apply for the concurrent degree program after first year.
